Campestres is a registered vineyard site in Wörth am Main in Bavaria and belongs to the wine-growing region Franconia. In the Bavarian vineyard directory, the site is listed under the area code CF. Municipal records assign it to the vineyard area Schneesberg or its surroundings.
Site
The site is located in the southern Main valley between the Spessart and the Odenwald. For the vineyards, a mild climate as well as warm, sun-exposed locations are described. The soil of Campestres is loamy sand. The cultivated area is given as 4.8 hectares.
Grape varieties and wines
The most important grape varieties for Campestres are listed as Frühburgunder, Weissburgunder, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau. In addition, Bacchus and Silvaner from wines of the site are documented. Campestres is used for both white wines and red wines.
History and cultivation
A municipal publication describes Campestres in connection with the Roman heritage of Wörth and the former Roman fort as a vineyard site shaped by Roman influence. The site has been approved as a geographical name for quality wines and for wines with specified attributes (Prädikatsweine); the prescribed place name is “Wörth a.Main”. For the cultivated vineyards, sustainable and responsible cultivation is stated as the objective for the operation.
