Location and landscape
Wörth am Main lies on the River Main between the upland ridges of Spessart and Odenwald. The town extends along the river and also includes higher, flood-protected areas above the historic riverside settlement.

Within the town area, the geological map sheet 6220 Wörth am Main shows river and valley deposits as well as Lower Miltenberg sandstone.
Historical development
Wörth am Main was first documented as a town in 1291 and developed under the rule of the lords of Breuberg and the Prince-Bishops of Mainz. Roman military installations were established during the period of the Main and Odenwald Limes. The Main also shaped the town as a centre for trade, shipping and shipbuilding; shipbuilding has been documented since 1652.
Winegrowing
In the Franconian winegrowing region, Wörth am Main belongs to the area of Churfranken. The registered vineyard sites Galgenbuckel and Campestres stand for local red and white wines. Campestres is documented with 4.8 hectares and loamy sandy soil; the most important grape varieties listed are Frühburgunder, Weißburgunder, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau. Bacchus is also listed there as a wine produced locally. For the use of a registered vineyard site for Franconian quality wine or Prädikatswein, at least 85 percent of the grapes must come from the designated area, and an official test number is also required.
