Location and classification
Burgweg is a named vineyard site in Kindenheim in the wine-growing region Pfalz. Kindenheimer Burgweg is designated as a single-site vineyard and belongs to the Kindenheim sites of the Grafenstück grand cru.
Microclimate and soils
The wind-exposed hillside location is protected by an old quarry and therefore has a pronounced microclimate. The soils are highly rich in limestone and store heat; in addition, the site is described as being characterised by limestone and clay.
Cultivation and grape varieties
The Neiss winery cultivates just under four hectares in Kindenheimer Burgweg. Documented there are Riesling, Spätburgunder and Weißburgunder. The Riesling planting at Weingut Neiss dates from 1975, the Spätburgunder planting from 2021.
Wines and ageing
The site documents dry Riesling, dry Weißburgunder, a Riesling trockenbeerenauslese as well as Spätburgunder. For a Chardonnay from Kindenheimer Burgweg, reduced yields, a long, cold maceration period, ageing on full yeast up to shortly before bottling, and repeated stirring of the lees are stated.
