Location and Climate
Burg Ravensburger Löchle is located in Sulzfeld in Baden, on the south-facing slope below Ravensburg Castle. The site, which is oriented from south-west to south, extends from around 190 to 260 metres above sea level and includes slope gradients of 10 to 40 percent. A curving, amphitheatre-like landform around a hollow creates a warm, sheltered microclimate. The name Löchle refers to this geographical depression.
Soil and Vineyard Area
The soils consist of Gipskeuper with reed sandstone, blue marl, gypsum and clay shale. The area classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® covers 6.19 hectares and is owned exclusively by the Burg Ravensburg winery.
Grape Varieties and Wines
The classified grape varieties listed are Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder. Documented wines from the Löchle are dry Spätburgunder and dry Grauburgunder, each presented as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS®.
Winemaking
For a documented Löchle Spätburgunder, the grapes are picked carefully by hand in several passes, selecting ripe, unbroken berries. After sorting, whole berries and whole grapes ferment in small wooden casks. The biological acid reduction takes place in barriques, where the wine matures for eight to twelve months.
