Location and classification
„Burg“ is recorded as a vineyard name under Heidelberg in the wine-growing region Baden, the Badische Bergstraße area. Weingut Hans Winter cultivates the vineyards Heidelberger Burg and Heidelberger Herrenberg in Heidelberg-Rohrbach.
Grape varieties and cultivation
For the two vineyards of the estate, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Auxerrois, Müller-Thurgau, Muskat, Spätburgunder, Dornfelder and Regent are documented. The cultivation is described as close to nature.
Vinification
A Heidelberger Burg Grauburgunder ferments and matures for eight to nine months in new barriques made from American oak. For the estate’s white wines, slow, cool fermentation is documented; red wines are traditionally fermented on the skins and aged in older wooden casks or barriques.
