Topography and soils
The VDP-classified site is oriented to the north-west to west-north-west, lies at an altitude of around 330 metres above sea level and has a slope of 25 per cent. The documented soils consist of red Lettenkeuper and clay marl. The Castell wine-growing area lies on gypsum Keuper.

Bausch covers 6.00 hectares. The grape variety stated is Müller-Thurgau.
Cultivation and ripeness
The Fürstlich Castell’sche Domäne describes the cultivation of its vineyards as consistently minimally interventionist. The focus here is on preserving nutrients in the soil, micro-organisms and the availability of water through sustainable cycles. According to the domain, wines from the VDP.ERSTE LAGE® sites are released one year after the harvest and after longer ageing in wooden casks.
