Alter Berg

Location and soils

The Alter Berg is the vineyard of Allmersbach am Weinberg, a district of the municipality Aspach in Württemberg. It lies on the southern foothills of the Löwenstein Hills at the western edge of the Swabian Forest, in a landscape shaped by orchards, woodland and arable fields. For the vineyards of Aspach, strong Keuper soils have been documented.

History and cultivation

Wine-growing in Aspach has a 500-year history. For the wine-press houses of Allmersbach and Kleinaspach, written evidence is first recorded in 1522. Land consolidation in the vineyard Allmersbacher Alter Berg took place from 1998 to 2001.

Wine-growing in Aspach is carried out mostly by hand. Documented work includes vine pruning, tying, leaf work, mulching of the sward, yield reduction and selective harvesting. In addition, both mechanical and manual harvesting methods are used.
