Location and classification
Alte Burg is a vineyard site in Köndringen in the wine-growing region Baden in Germany. The VDP lists it as VDP.GROSSE LAGE with a classified area of 9.00 hectares.
Topography and soils
The site is located at 200 to 280 metres above sea level. The slope ranges from 0 to 30 per cent, with an aspect from south-west to south. The soils are given as weathered shell limestone and loess.
Grape varieties and wine
For this site, Spätburgunder is classified as the grape variety. A parcel by Bernhard Huber was planted in 1998 with Burgundy selections of Chardonnay and Spätburgunder. A wine from Alte Burg by Bernhard Huber is a dry red wine made from Spätburgunder.
Development of the classification
The Alte Burg Spätburgunder was initially offered before being listed as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS. Since 2020, the wine has been classified as Grosses Gewächs.
