Köndringen

Location and viticulture

Köndringen is located in the southern Upper Rhine region, around 14 kilometres north of Freiburg im Breisgau, in the wine-growing region Baden. For the year 1999, a vineyard area of 123.4 hectares is listed.

Wine-growing history

Viticulture in Köndringen is documented for the first time in 1364. A record from 1410 mentions parcels of vines in Köndringen that were assigned to the Clarissine monastery in Freiburg. In November 1954, 33 winegrowers founded a winegrowing cooperative in Köndringen.

Old Castle location

The Alte Burg has been classified by the VDP as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® in Baden. The designated area covers 9.00 hectares; Spätburgunder is given as the grape variety. The site, which is oriented from south-west to south-south-west, lies at an altitude of 200 to 280 metres and has a slope of 0 to 30 per cent. The soils consist of weathered shell limestone with loess.
