Location and Topography
Abtsberg is a legally registered single vineyard site in the municipality of Impflingen, to the west of the village and within the vineyards. A marked educational trail through the site runs at an elevation of 152 to 190 metres and shows an ascent of 41 metres.
Soil and Classification
For Riesling plots in Abtsberg, light loess soils with calcareous inclusions are described. The site belongs to the Qualitätsweinbau region Pfalz, South German Wine Route area (Bereich Südliche Weinstraße), major vineyard site (Großlage) Herrlich. The official vineyard sites directory 2024 lists for Impflingen’s Abtsberg 238.2 hectares of planted vineyard area.
Grapevieties and Wine Style
From Abtsberg, Riesling and Dornfelder are documented. Dry Riesling and dry Dornfelder are evidenced as Qualitätsweine. For wines from selected sites, including Abtsberg, strongly reduced yields, late harvest, gentle vinification and extended lees ageing are described.
