Weisenbach

Location and landscape

Weisenbach is located in the central Murg valley in Baden-Württemberg and covers around 907 hectares. The municipality is situated in a deeply incised valley surrounded by forested mountains with heights of nearly 1,000 metres. For a documented vineyard area in Weisenbach, an altitude of about 312 metres is recorded.

History of viticulture

Viticulture in Weisenbach is first documented in 1481. In this context, a chapel between the vines was mentioned. The historical vineyard areas within the municipality included the Kestelberg.

Vines and the development of viticulture

After land consolidation and modernisation in the 20th century, varieties including Spätburgunder, Ruländer and Müller-Thurgau were planted in Weisenbach. The 1972 land consolidation was connected with the revival of local viticulture. A documented Müller-Thurgau from the 2009 vintage is described as a light wine with persistent fruit and integrated acidity.

Single vineyard Kestelberg

The Kestelberg was documented as an official single vineyard in Weisenbach. In an official announcement from 2013, it was also announced that around 2.5 hectares would be transferred from the single-vineyard designation Kestelberg to a newly designated single vineyard.
