Weinsheim an der Nahe

Weinsheim is a municipality in the Nahe wine region and lies about five kilometres west of Bad Kreuznach.

Farming and viticulture

The municipality has historically been shaped by farming and viticulture. Today, both areas are continued in the main and in the side occupation. The vineyard register for the 2024 harvest lists the Weinsheim single vineyards Katergrube, Kellerberg and Steinkaut with 65.5, 2.5 and 2.2 hectares of planted vineyard area, respectively.

History and Kellerberg

A record from the year 770 mentions Weinsheim, then Wigmundisheim, in connection with vineyards, pasture land and mills. For 1788, farming, viticulture, the production of pear wine and the milling trade are described as important sources of income.

The Weinsheim Kellerberg contains sandstone of the Unterrotliegend, loam and slate. The slopes oriented to the south and south-east reach gradients of up to 40 per cent. From there, Riesling is documented, including a wine described as dry. A tourist circular route around Weinsheim runs through the site and shows a height difference of around 90 metres.
