Siebeldingen in the Palatinate
Siebeldingen is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district in Rhineland-Palatinate and is described by the municipality as a historic wine-growing village. The place was first documented in 1219 as a wine-growing location and lies in the Palatinate, in the Queich valley at the transition between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain.
Sites and terroir
The south-facing vineyards in the Queich valley are considered favourable exposures around Siebeldingen. Differences in elevation and slope inclination, as well as the western uplands, create a variety of microclimates. In the wine-growing region around Siebeldingen and Birkweiler, Buntsandstein, limestone, Rotliegend and slate are found. Among the named sites are Im Sonnenschein, Mönchspfad and Rosenberg.
Im Sonnenschein
The Siebeldingen site Im Sonnenschein is designated as VDP.GROSSE LAGE. As a result of subsidence and faulting of the Rhine Graben, old geological formations lying deep underground have been exposed there; shell limestone is an essential component of the soils. Oekonomierat Rebholz connects these soils with Riesling and Burgundian grape varieties, as well as with wines of richness, fine mineral character and integrated acidity.
Winegrowing
The winery Oekonomierat Rebholz has been cultivating its vineyards since 2005 in accordance with organic guidelines and shortly afterwards biodynamically. In doing so, natural plant strengthening agents are used. The wines are vinified dry; chaptalisation and sweet reserve are not used.
