Rümmingen

Location and landscape

Rümmingen is a municipality in the Markgräflerland between the Black Forest and the Upper Rhine Plain, in the Vorderen Kandertal. The municipality extends on both sides of the Kandertal in the Bamlach-Schallbacher loess hill country. The lower-lying valley forms a central corridor, while the settlement lies on a moderately steep valley slope.

Altitude and climate

The municipal area ranges from about 273 metres above sea level in the Kandertal to around 441 metres at the eastern boundary. It includes loess hill country and slopes with ancient-quaternary gravel deposits; in the east, the landscape grades into the Weitenauer hill country, which is made up of Buntsandstein. The climate is mild, warm and temperate. The average annual temperature is about 9.8 °C, and the annual precipitation is roughly 792 millimetres.

Viticulture and history

The hilly landscape around Rümmingen is shaped by viticulture and fruit growing. For the municipal anniversary in 2017, the Gutedel Rümminger Gutedel Sonnhohle was issued as a special edition by Weingut Frick in Binzen. The wine refers to the entry Sonnhohle. Rümmingen was first mentioned in a document on 17 July 767 under the name Romaninchova.
