Location and vineyard
Rimpar is a market town in the district of Würzburg in Bavaria and lies in Franconia. The vineyard Kobersberg is located near 97222 Rimpar on a south-facing slope northwest of the town centre, north of the WÜ 3 road in the direction of Güntersleben.
Relief and geology
At around 340 metres above sea level, the Kobersberg lies about 40 metres above the adjoining Gäu plain. From there, views are possible into the Pleichachtal and a western dry valley. The vineyard consists of uplifted, originally horizontal layers of rock with exposed Muschelkalk; the Keuper clay covering has been largely removed from the uplifted structure.
Viticulture
In 2009, most of the vineyard area of 10.6 hectares recorded for Rimpar was on the south-exposed Kobersberg slope. A long local tradition of organic viticulture is documented for the site; in addition, an ecological wine education trail runs there.
Grape varieties and wines
At the Rimpar Kobersberg, among others Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Scheurebe, Portugieser, Dornfelder, Spätburgunder and Domina are grown. Drier Silvaner, dry Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, dry rosé, Portugieser, dry red wine cuvées, Rotling and sparkling wine are documented. The wines are listed as Qualitätswein, Prädikatswein, Kabinett or Spätlese; Bacchus and Rotling are also documented as semi-dry. One red wine cuvée matured for twelve months in wooden barrels.
