Location and landscape
Neudenau is located in the Jagst valley in the north-east of the district of Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg. The Jagst runs through the municipal area in several large meanders. The landscape is shaped by a river valley between higher-lying areas, deeply cut valleys, mountain ridges and hillocks.
Geology and climate
The Neudenau hills belong to the Kocher–Jagst plains. On the shell limestone slopes there is a Lettenkeuper table, the surface of which is partly covered by loess loam. For a local planning area, an average annual temperature of 9.6 to 10.0 °C and an annual precipitation of 751 to 800 mm are given.
Viticulture and history
Neudenau has a viticulture tradition documented in charters, going back to 1263; in addition, a manor press house is handed down. The single vineyard Hofberg belongs to the Großlage Kocherberg in the Kocher–Jagst–Tauber area of the wine-growing region Württemberg. The town was founded on a spur above two steep Jagst meanders and was first mentioned as a town in 1263. As part of the municipal reform of 1975, the present municipal area was expanded to include Herbolzheim, Siglingen, Reichertshausen and Kreßbach.
