Location and landscape
Nack lies on the south-western edge of Rheinhessen, between the foothills of the North Palatinate Uplands and the gently rolling hills of Rheinhessen. Vineyards, areas used for agriculture and woodland lie close together here. Nack is part of the Rheinhessen Switzerland landscape protection and recreation area.
Ahrenberg vineyard site
In the north-western part of the Nack cadastral district lies the vineyard site Ahrenberg. It is classified as a single vineyard within the Großlage Adelberg in the Bingen area of the quality wine-growing region Rheinhessen.
Soil and wine profile
The Ahrenberg has an andesite-brown earth made from dark volcanic Rotliegend lava. The shallow, very stony and sandy-loamy soil stores only limited water, but is well aerated and warms up well. It provides good nutrient supply, while rooting depth is limited. With this type of soil, a lively mineral character, rather elegant fruit, finely balanced acidity and a slender, structured profile with potential for ripeness are linked.
History
Nack was first mentioned in documents in 1304. In 1822, the place became an independent political municipality; before that, it belonged to Erbes-Büdesheim. On the Ahrenberg, a remnant of a prehistoric ring wall is also documented.
