Location
Lindelbach is a district of the market town of Randersacker in the Würzburg district in Franconia, Bavaria. The settlement lies on the high plateau of the Main triangle. The vineyard Dabug is situated to the west of the settlement within the Lindelbach cadastral district.
Viticulture and Geology
Viticulture in the Lindelbach cadastral district has been documented since 1155. The Lindelbach section of the Dabug comprises about 17.5 hectares, was consolidated in land reorganisation in 1979 and 1980, and was then replanted. The steep hillside, oriented to the south, between Lützelsgrund and Lindelbach lies in the geological formation of the Upper Muschelkalk.
Historical Development
The Cistercian abbey of Altenberg near Cologne already owned vineyards in the Dabug around 1140, which was then referred to as Thaebog. In the 16th century, a dispute arose over tax payments for vineyards that were farmed by winegrowers from Eibelstadt but claimed by Randersacker. The conflict lasted more than a century and was brought before the Reichskammergericht in Speyer.
Wine-Law Classification
The official Bavarian vineyard register lists the designation “Randersacker Lindelbach Dabug” in the protected winegrowing region of Franconia, MainSüden area, under the Grosslage Teufelstor. Registered vineyard names are geographical designations protected in Bavaria for quality wine and Prädikat wine. The municipal name or district name must accompany the vineyard name; the relevant grapes must predominantly come from the designated geographical area.
