Location and Landscape
Leonberg is located in Baden-Württemberg in the Stuttgart region, west of Stuttgart. The Glems valley shapes the city’s landscape and extends within Leonberg from about 380 to 310 metres above sea level.
Geology and Viticulture
The city area lies at the transition between the natural regions Schönbuch-Glemswald and Neckar Basin. The Schönbuch-Glemswald is geologically connected with reed sandstone and Stubensandstein. Leonberg is a winegrowing town in the wine-growing region Württemberg; the Ehrenberg belongs to the important vineyard sites along the Glems.
The Ehrenberg Vineyard Site
The Ehrenberg lies on steep slopes above the Glems. The soils consist of loess and loam over a limestone subsoil and have water-retaining capacity as well as soil aeration suitable for viticulture. The name of the vineyard site has been documented since the 16th century.
Cultivation and Wine Law
In the documented harvest in 2025, the grapes in Ehrenberg were picked by hand and damaged or crushed berries were sorted out. Owing to the steep slopes, the harvested grapes were transported downhill in back-carrying carrying baskets. For a Leonberg-Ehrenberg operation, transport with the tractor to the cellar is also documented, where the grapes were pressed and the must subsequently fermented. An official announcement from 2025 involved vineyard plots located in Leonberg that were planted or registered being incorporated into a planned change to the designation of the winegrowing area from “Remstal–Stuttgart” to “Remstal”.
