Lauf

Lauf is a municipality in the Ortenau district of Baden-Württemberg and lies in the Baden wine-growing region on the outlying slopes of the Black Forest between Baden-Baden and Offenburg. The municipal area extends through the Laufbach valley and its side valleys. Elevations range from about 200 to 1,010 metres above sea level.

Vineyards are located in the valley and on the surrounding slopes. Along the Ortenauer Weinpfad through the municipality, vineyards and orchards are also documented. The Laufer Gut Alsenhof is a 3.65-hectare VDP.ERSTE LAGE at around 220 to 270 metres above sea level. The soils consist of weathered gneiss and red sandstone.

For the Laufer Gut Alsenhof, the grape varieties Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder are recorded. A documented wine is a dry Weißburgunder as VDP.ERSTE LAGE and quality wine. The hand-picked grapes were destemmed, gently pressed, fermented spontaneously in French oak barrels and left on the lees for a long time until bottling. According to the owner, the vineyard was first mentioned in documents in 1493.

Lauf was first mentioned in documents in 1383. In 1805, the municipality moved from the Ortenau territorial administration to Baden and, since the administrative reform in 1974, has belonged to the Ortenau district. In the Alsenhof there is a wooden wine press known as the Alte Trotte, which, according to the municipality, was still in operation in the 1950s. The name Alde Gott is associated in the area around Lauf with regional Spätburgunder.
