Hüffelsheim

Location and landscape

Hüffelsheim is a municipality covering 6.55 square kilometres in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland-Palatinate. It lies in the Inneres Kreuznacher Lösshügelland landscape, whose ridges rise from east to west between asymmetrical valleys. The higher ground ridges are covered with sandy-stony gravel soils.

Vine-growing on the Nahe

The vineyard landscape of Hüffelsheim belongs to the Nahe. It comprises gently undulating slopes and sunny steep vineyards, including steep areas oriented from the south-west to the south-east. The vines are mostly cultivated facing the slope; in the surrounding area, remnants of terraced vineyard plots are also preserved.

Vineyard sites

In the register of vineyard sites (as of harvest 2024), the Gutenhölle (5.5 hectares), the Mönchberg (3.4 hectares), the Steyer (7.0 hectares) and the Goldgrube (2.4 hectares) are listed. The Goldgrube extends across the localities of Hüffelsheim and Rüdesheim.

History

Hüffelsheim was first mentioned in a document in 766. The further development is presumably to have begun with a Roman estate. After belonging to France for about two decades from 1796, the town came under Prussian rule in 1815 and has been part of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1949.
