Dörzbach

Location in the Jagst Valley

Dörzbach lies in the Jagst valley in the Hohenlohe district of Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the natural region Kocher-Jagst plain. The municipality is assigned to the Württemberg wine-growing region.

Altenberg Vineyard Site

Altenberg. It is located on strongly sun-exposed southern slopes in the Jagst valley at around 235 to 300 metres above sea level. The slopes reach up to 65 degrees and cover shell limestone soils that are rich in minerals, calcareous and able to store heat.

Viticulture and cultivation

At Altenberg, the greater part of the vineyard areas documented for Dörzbach is cultivated. The very steep plots made it difficult to use labour-saving machinery. Through land consolidation with cross terraces and accessible small terraces, its cultivation was improved.

Tradition and wine profile

The Jagst valley has been established as a traditional wine-growing area, in which viticulture has existed since the Middle Ages and remained an important basis of livelihood into the 20th century. For the Dörzbach Altenberg, a Riesling Kabinett is documented.
