Location and classification
Würzhölle is an official single vineyard in the wine-growing region Nahe, in the Nahetal area and within the larger vineyard site Paradiesgarten. The site is located within the municipality and cadastral district of Unkenbach in Germany. In the official vineyard directory, it is listed under vineyard number 511379.
Soil and site
The documented soil type is a sandstone-weathered soil. The site is exposed to the wind, which means that the grapes dry off more quickly in humid weather and the risk of rot decreases.
Vines and winemaking
Würzhölle is planted with Riesling and Silvaner as a Pfälzer mixed-set. The vines are described as being more than 60 years old. Riesling and Silvaner are harvested together and pressed directly together, rather than being blended in the cellar after a separate vinification. A documented wine from Unkenbacher Würzhölle was a delicately sweet Riesling-and-Silvaner quality wine from old vines.
