Location and classification

Wildenstein is listed by the VDP as BIENENBERG „WILDENSTEIN“ in Malterdingen in the Baden growing region of Germany. The 1.65-hectare site is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.

Topography and soil

The vineyard is oriented to the south to the south-west, lies at an altitude of 240 to 260 metres and has a slope gradient of 30 to 40 percent. The documented soil consists of weathered red shell limestone.

Grape variety and wine

Pinot Noir is the variety classified for BIENENBERG „WILDENSTEIN“ and documented as the leading grape variety. The site is linked, among other things, to the Pinot Noir Wildenstein „R“ GG by Bernhard Huber. For the Bienenberg Wildenstein Grosses Gewächs, spontaneous fermentation and longer maturation on the fine lees in predominantly new Burgundy barriques are documented as production practice.
