Location and categorisation
The Werderaner Galgenberg lies at the historic Galgenberg within the city limits of Werder an der Havel in Brandenburg. The vineyard site is assigned to the Qualitätsweinbauregion Saale-Unstrut and is managed as a single vineyard site in the Werder (Havel) area.
History and cultivation
The Galgenberg is described as the oldest vineyard site outside the Werder island and was probably already planted with vines as early as the 16th century. The 1.4-hectare area was replanted in 2012 and 2013. Since 2012, it has been cultivated by Weinbau Dr. Lindicke as part of a lease agreement with the city of Werder.
Soil and grape varieties
The operator documents sandy soil. The varieties grown are Muscaris, Cabernet Blanc, Sauvignac (Vb 6-04) and Pinotin. The first documented wine from the newly planted vineyard was bottled in autumn 2015 as Pinotin.
Documented wine
A documented white-wine cuvée from the 2019 vintage was made from Cabernet Blanc, Sauvignac and Muscaris. It was classified as a pleasantly off-dry German Qualitätswein with a protected designation of origin and was matured in stainless-steel tanks under reductive cellar treatment.
