Location and landscape
The Weiherberg is a vineyard site south of Bruchsal in the wine region Baden. The site, around 1.1 hectares in size, is open to the wind and faces south-east, and lies on a high plateau overlooking the Rhine plain.
Soil and geology
The site is connected with a former limestone sand quarry. A locally around one to two metres thick layer of loamy clay lies over geological subsoil that is difficult to root through. In the area, Upper Muschelkalk and historical quarry sites are exposed.
Grape varieties and wine
The vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir. The vines, around 30 years old, come from planting material from Burgundy. A documented bottling from the Weiherberg is a dry Pinot Noir as a quality wine from specified growing areas (QbA) with 13.0% alcohol by volume.
Cultivation
The vineyard is cultivated by Weingut Klumpp, whose operations have been run organically since 1996.
