Location and extent
The Wackerbarthberg is a vineyard site in Radebeul in Saxony. It lies above Schloss Wackerbarth in the Radebeul vineyard landscape and covers around six hectares. The altitude ranges from approximately 115 to 190 metres above sea level.
Relief and soils
The upper steep slopes have an average gradient of about 30 per cent. In the lower plots there are terraced vineyards with dry-stone walls protected as monuments. The soils consist of weathered porphyry and syenite, which are described as volcanic parent material.
Grape varieties and wines
At the Wackerbarthberg, the white grape varieties Riesling, Traminer and Scheurebe are grown. Schloss Wackerbarth presents the wines produced from them as white wines from a single site.
Historical reference
Between 1727 and 1730, August Christoph Count von Wackerbarth had Johann Christoph Knöffel build the estate Wackerbarths Ruh' with its associated garden and belvedere in the vineyard landscape. In the current Saxon single-site list for the district of Meissen, Steinrücken is listed as a registered single-site designation for Radebeul within the large site of Lößnitz; Wackerbarthberg is not recorded there under this name.
