Übigberg

Location and Classification

Übigberg is a vineyard name in the Ahr wine-growing region and, as a single-vineyard site, is recognised in the Walporzheim/Ahrtal area as well as in the grosslage Klosterberg. The site is associated with Altenahr and Ahrbrück. The vineyard register code is 110108.

Topography and Soils

The six geographically separate sections extend from Altenahr in the direction of the upper Ahr valley. They are predominantly south-facing; around 80 per cent are classified as steep slopes and 20 per cent as hillside sites. The elevation profile ranges from approximately 150 to 240 metres above sea level. The soils are described as weathered greywacke and slate soil.

Cultivation

For the 2024 harvest, the Rhineland-Palatinate vineyard register lists 1.8 hectares of Übigberg in Altenahr. A local site profile names at the time of its publication around 1 hectare of planted area. The areas currently under cultivation are concentrated in the vicinity of the former Altenahr cable railway and the Roßberg; part of the historically much larger site has been left fallow. These sections are recognisable above all by overgrown vineyard walls made of dry stone masonry.

Grape Varieties and Wine Style

In the sections under cultivation, according to the local site profile, around 1 hectare of Riesling and less than 0.5 hectares of Spätburgunder are grown. The wines described from this are velvety red wines as well as firm, structured white wines.
