Location and context
The Teufelsburg is a named single vineyard in the district of Kiechlinsbergen of Endingen in the wine-growing region Baden and in the Kaiserstuhl. It is located in the south-western part of Kiechlinsbergen.
Soil and geology
The deep, loess-clay soils lie over volcanic rock. At the Teufelsburg, earlier lava flows have been preserved, which are classified as tephrite. The deep loess soils have a high capacity for storing water.
Grape varieties and wines
Plantings and wines from the Teufelsburg include Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Ruländer, or Grauburgunder, Muscat and Scheurebe. The site is known both for white and for red wines, including dry wines made from Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder. For the south-western area, fruity and full-bodied wines are described.
Vinification
A documented Spätburgunder from the 2017 vintage from the Kiechlinsberger Teufelsburg was aged in a large wooden cask and offered as a dry quality wine.
