Location and classification
The Radebeul Steinrücken is an officially registered single vineyard within the Großlage Lößnitz in the area of Meissen. It lies in Niederlößnitz on the slopes of the Elbe Valley in Radebeul in the wine-growing region Saxony.
Terraces and geology
The vineyard areas include historical terraces and dry-stone walls. The plots, which are oriented from south to south-west, are on syenite and porphyry with low to very low quartz content. For a vineyard assigned to the Steinrücken at Friedensburg, a granite-syenite weathered soil is also documented.
Grape varieties and vinification
On the plots of the Karl Friedrich Aust winery, Riesling is the most important planting; it is complemented by Weißburgunder and Auxerrois. The vineyard assigned to the site at Friedensburg is planted with Spätburgunder. For wines made from grapes from the Steinrücken, the Karl Friedrich Aust winery documents a longer period of ageing in the cellar and release after about one to two years of ripening.
Historic vineyard landscape
The Steinrücken belongs to the historic vineyard landscape of Radebeul. Its winegrowing culture with terraces, walls, vineyard buildings and cellars has been protected since 27 July 2001.
