Location and single vineyard
Steinkloebe is the legally registered single vineyard Memlebener Steinklöbe in the Memleben district of the municipality of Kaiserpfalz in Saxony-Anhalt. It belongs to the growing region Saale-Unstrut. The official vineyard register lists, for the Memleben cadastral area as at 31 December 2024, a planted area of 6.3025 hectares.
Historic vineyard
The documented vineyard of the former Memleben monastery lies to the north of the Unstrut, opposite the former monastery complex, on a hillside and borders directly on the Ziegelrodaer Forst woodland. In 2012, the Stiftung Kloster Memleben replanted a small vineyard there with an area of around 0.5 hectares. The project builds on the winemaking tradition of the Benedictine monks of the former Imperial Abbey of Memleben.
Grape variety and vinification
The vineyard area is planted with Pinot Blanc. A wine from the 2016 vintage from the Memlebener Steinklöbe was documented as a semi-dry German quality wine. Since 2024, Siegmund & Klingbeil have been farming the vineyard of the Kloster Memleben and producing the wine in casks as well as in a GärEi fermentation vessel.
