Location and Classification

Steigerberg is a legally registered single vineyard in the district subdivision and cadastral district Wendelsheim. It belongs to the area of Bingen, to the Großlage Adelberg, and to the wine-growing region Rheinhessen.

Soil and Area Size

The name derives from the Middle High German word “steige” meaning a steep ascent. The soil is classified as sand-Regosol and consists of coastal sands, gravels and pebbles from Tertiary marine deposits. The deep, loamy sand, which is rich in gravel, is well aerated and warms up well, but is described as being frequently low in nutrients, weakly calcareous, and with a limited root zone. In the 2024 vineyard register, 52.2 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded.

Wine Style

The wines from this site are described as early to become accessible, fruit-forward, slim and elegant. A lively acidity, along with notes of citrus fruit or green apple, characterise the stated style.
