Stappenberg

Location and topography

Stappenberg is a historic vineyard site in Oberdollendorf, a district of Königswinter in the wine-growing region Mittelrhein. The area is documented as a steep-slope vineyard; the preserved, newly planted plot faces westwards.

Soil and history

At the documented building site of Stappenberg there is a thin layer of soil over solid rock. Viticulture was discontinued in the 1960s. Afterwards, the area was converted into building land, with a small undeveloped plot remaining.

Historical context

In 1910, Stappenberg was listed in Fritz Goldschmidt’s account as one of several named vineyard sites in Oberdollendorf. At that time, the vineyards of Oberdollendorf covered around 22 hectares under production.

New planting

The preserved vineyard plot within the residential area was cleared and replanted in 2021. Blue Elbling and Black Riesling were used.
