Sonnenring

Location and classification

Sonnenring is a legally registered single vineyard within the municipality and cadastral area of Löf in the Mosel wine-growing region. The site belongs to the area of Burg Cochem and to the Großlage Weinhex. In the official vineyard register, it is listed under vineyard number 440528; for the 2024 harvest and vineyard register, less than one hectare of planted vineyard area is recorded.

Terraces and site

Sonnenring is described as a steep-slope vineyard with gradients of up to 50 per cent and terraced vines. On the terraces, higher proportions of blue and grey slate, clay slate and greywacke occur. In this description, the Lower Mosel is considered warm and sunny; the Eifel provides protection from westerly winds.

Grape variety and wine

Riesling is grown in Sonnenring. Documented are white Riesling wines, including a bottling referred to as Riesling Kabinett. A winery working there reports on hand-harvesting and vines that are up to 60 years old. The Riesling from the Löfer Sonnenring matures in the winery’s own wine cellar at the organic holiday winery Leyendecker.
