Single vineyard in Württemberg
Schneckenhof is officially classified as a single vineyard in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The legally listed localities include Adolzfurt, Geddelsbach, Maienfels and Unterheimbach.
Location and soils
The Geddelsbacher Schneckenhof lies in connection with the Brettachtal and the places of Geddelsbach and Bretzfeld. It includes the Geddelsbacher Hälden, a south-facing, sunny hillside. On the southern slopes, heavy Keuper soils form the subsoil, while on the opposite side of the valley lighter Muschelkalk soils occur.
Grape varieties and wines
On 1.4 hectares in Schneckenhof, Lemberger, Trollinger, Riesling, Spätburgunder and Muskateller are grown. From the vineyard areas, white, red and rosé wines are produced. In addition, sparkling wines are made in the estate’s own cellar using traditional bottle fermentation.
Wine-growing history
The Hammel family has been cultivating vineyards at Schneckenhof since 1932 and has been marketing their wines themselves since 1983. For Unterheimbach, one of the officially named Schneckenhof localities, wine-growing has been documented since 1537.
