Location and classification
The Schloßberg is a wine-growing site in Lieser on the Middle Mosel. In the wine-growing sites directory of Rhineland-Palatinate, it is recorded as a single-vineyard site and assigned to the Großlage Kurfürstlay. A local winegrowing description refers to the Lieser Schloßberg as the largest wine-growing site in Lieser.
Aspect and soils
The upper areas are characterised by steep slopes. The Riesling vineyard parcels are for the most part orientated to the west and are therefore exposed to less of the intense midday sun than the south-facing sites Lieser Niederberg-Helden and Rosenlay. In the lower part, there are heavy, nutrient-rich deposits from the former Mosel riverbed; further up, the soils are lighter and more stony.
Grape varieties and wine style
The lower part is suitable for red press grapes and Rivaner, while the upper areas are planted predominantly with Riesling. Riesling Qualitätswein trocken and Riesling Spätlese feinherb are documented. The Riesling wines from the Schloßberg are described as fundamentally lighter and at the same time fruity.
