Location and classification
Roßel is a single-vineyard site in the growing region Nahe, the Nahetal sub-region, as part of the Großlage Schlosskapelle. It is located in the municipality of Waldalgesheim in the cadastral district of Genheim and has the site number 510316.
Area and soil
For the 2024 harvest year, 3.6 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded. Genheimer Roßel is described as a Rigosol made of medium-deep, heavily stony sandy loam over bedrock. The parent rock is connected to Devonian Soonwald quartzite.
Site conditions
The site has a limited root zone, a low water-holding capacity, sufficient drainage and aeration, an adequate supply of nutrients, and an acidic soil reaction. The shallow, stony soils store only little water, which means the vines can be particularly affected by water stress in dry years. The quartzite-influenced soils warm up quickly.
Grape variety and wine character
The representative grape variety is Riesling. The wines are described as relatively light and lively, with fresh acidity, delicate peach and apricot notes, and mineral tones. In general, their ageing potential is reached after a few years.
