Rosenhügel

Location and classification

Rosenhügel is a vineyard site in Oberdollendorf, a district of Königswinter in North Rhine-Westphalia. The site lies on the west-facing slope of the Dollendorf Hardt and belongs to the wine-growing region Mittelrhein.

The legally recorded vineyard area comprises 2.9 hectares in the Oberdollendorf cadastral district, Flur 11. Rosenhügel is a single-vineyard site in the Qualitätswein category Mittelrhein, Siebengebirge sub-area; Königswinterer Petersberg is approved as the name for a collective site.

Soil and viticulture

The vineyards are planted on loam and loess soils over greywacke. The Oberdollendorf wine-growing area, to which Rosenhügel belongs, is currently farmed by the Blöser family. Riesling and Müller-Thurgau are documented on the site; in addition, white and red wines are produced there.

Most of the vines are trained on trellises. In steeper sections, training is carried out on individual posts. A drainage ditch and a retention basin regulate precipitation water and reduce erosion.

History of the site

Rosenhügel is among the older vineyard sites in the Siebengebirge and used to belong to the estate of Sülz, an important property of Heisterbach Abbey. The current name arose as part of the land consolidation in 1978 and does not go back to an older field designation.

With this reorganisation, the contiguous vineyard area was expanded from 4.8 to more than 7 hectares. Around 35,000 vines were planted; the former basin floor was raised by about five metres, and the vineyards were made accessible with driveable paths.
