Rosenberg

Location and Classification

Rosenberg is a legally documented Grand Cru site near Pünderich in the wine-growing region Mosel. Following a study into its cultural history conducted in 2015, the Pünderich Grand Cru comprises around 40 hectares.

Plots and Soils

The name Rosenberg includes flat and sloping vineyard plots. The documented vineyard location “Auf dem Eigener Flur” consists of level, comparatively young vine-growing areas. There are loose, deep, sandy and loamy loess soils, which have developed from Mos河l terraces and wind-deposited loess. This means they differ from the slate soils of the steep Pünderich Marienburg.

Climate and Cultivation

Pünderich has a maritime-influenced climate with warm summers, mild winters, prevailing south-westerly winds and annual rainfall of more than 600 millimetres. The level plots of Rosenberg are harvested mechanically using a grape harvester.

Grape Variety and Designation History

The vineyards of Rosenberg are associated with Riesling; the municipality describes the local Rieslings originating from it as fruity. According to the Frank Brohl winery, Rosenberg was included in the designation Pündericher Marienburg during the 1971 wine law reform. Since 2014, the historical name Rosenberg can therefore be used again on labels, provided ownership is proven using cadastral records.
