Viticultural classification

The Rosenberg is classified as a single vineyard in the quality winegrowing region Pfalz, South Wine Route area, Großlage Kloster Liebfrauenberg.

Landscape and soils

The vineyard area lies in the Mühlhofen-Rheinzaberner loess marl terraces (Lössriedel), an elevated landscape unit between the low-lying areas of Erlenbach and Klingbach. The western part is around 20 to 25 metres above the adjacent lowlands, whereas the eastern part is relatively flat. The outlying areas towards Steinweiler are on south-facing slopes.

In the west, loess and loess marl shape the landscape. Further areas show deposits with sandy to loamy, locally gravelly or stony soils. For the Mühlhofen Rosenberg, deep-rooting clay soils are also described.

Grape varieties and viticulture

A documented parcel on the Steinweiler Rosenberg was planted with Grauburgunder, also known as Pinot Gris. For the Mühlhofen Rosenberg, Riesling, Grauburgunder and Sauvignon Blanc are also mentioned.

As part of a jubilee wine project at the Steinweiler Rosenberg, in 2017 the cutting back of the vines and bending of the vines were documented, along with shoot management (green work) and the harvest in the course of the year.

Jubilee wine from Steinweiler

The project was created to mark the 1050th anniversary of Steinweiler. The grapes from a Grauburgunder parcel were used for the limited jubilee wine “Jubelstück”, of which 1,050 bottles were produced and which was presented in 2018.
