Location and designation
Römerpfad is a single-vineyard designation in Maring-Noviand in the Mosel. Under the municipal statutes of 2023, the legal name is Noviander Römerpfad; previously, Maring-Noviander Römerpfad was used.
Site
The south-easterly exposure is described as being somewhat cooler than neighbouring vineyards. Its soil is noticeably more loamy than that of other local sites and has good water-holding capacity.
Grape varieties and wines
Römerpfad is planted with Rivaner, Cabernet Cortis, Sauvignac and, in smaller quantities, Riesling. Riesling from the Maring-Noviander Römerpfad is documented as Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese, including both dry and fine-herbal or semi-dry styles. A documented Rivaner made from must originating partly from there was fermented in tank and matured dry.
Historical reference
In the vineyard area of Maring-Noviand, a Roman press installation from the 2nd or 3rd century AD is documented. It is linked to the historical name Römerpfad.
