Location
Römerberg is a documented single vineyard site in Oberheimbach within the German wine-growing region Mittelrhein. Oberheimbach lies in the Heimbach valley on the left bank of the Rhine, around two kilometres from the river.
Wine-growing history
Oberheimbach was already associated with winegrowing around 1900 and at that time had around 120 hectares of vineyard area. In 1926, during the rebuilding of the vineyards after the phylloxera crisis, the winegrowers in the Heimbach valley founded the Oberheimbach vine-restructuring cooperative. The initiative became known as the first German vine-restructuring region.
Legal classification
Römerberg is listed in the wine-growing sites directory of Rhineland-Palatinate as a name for a wine-growing site. German wine law governs the registration and use of vineyard site names as geographical designations.
