Location and Topography
Rieschen is a single-vineyard site in Meersburg and lies directly below the Meersburg State Winery. The exposed position is located above the Meersburg harbour area. It is oriented to the south-west to south-south-west and has slope gradients of around 30 to 70 percent, including extremely steep sections.
Soils and Grape Varieties
The vineyard site, measuring around five hectares, is characterised by skeletal freshwater molasse with ice-age moraine gravel. As traditional grape varieties, Riesling, Traminer, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder are documented.
History and Maturation
The quality of the wines from Rieschen was already praised in the Middle Ages, according to the State Winery. For the 2023 Rieschen Riesling Großes Gewächs, preparation with whole berries in large wooden barrels is documented; the grapes came from several harvesting passes.
