Location and classification
The official name of the single vineyard site is Wormser Remeyerhof. It is located within the city limits of Worms in the wine-growing region Rheinhessen. Under wine law, it belongs to the Wonnegau area and to the Grosslage Wormser Liebfrauenmorgen.
Soil and site
The soils consist of gravel, sand and loam, or respectively Rigosol, and have developed from fluvial deposits from the Ice Age. They are moderately deep, stony and sandy-loamy, react neutral to acidic, and have a low nutrient content as well as a medium to good potential for root penetration. The site is well drained and aerated, warms up well, yet stores comparatively little water available to plants, which can lead to drought stress in dry years.
Wine character
The published site profile assigns the wines more strongly to red varieties and Burgundian varieties. The aromas described are herb-spiced, along with a firm structure, freshness, texture and potential for ageing.
Origin of the name
The name goes back to a farmstead associated with the Wilhelmit monastery, which was named after Saint Remigius, the Reymers.
