Location and classification
Reinig auf der Burg is a designated single vineyard in Wasserliesch in the Upper Moselle area of the wine-growing region Mosel. The official directory of vineyard sites lists it under vineyard site number 420123 and assigns it to the Großlage Gipfel.
Vineyard area and landscape
In the Wasserliesch cadastral district, 5.2 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded for the site. Wasserliesch lies on the Moselle near the confluence with the Saar; the vineyards extend on hillside locations between the Moselle, the Saar and the Liescher Berg.
Soils and reference to grape varieties
The wine-growing slopes of Wasserliesch are described as calcareous Keuper hills of the Upper Moselle. Elbling is traditionally associated with these calcareous Keuper slopes.
Historic name
The name Reinig auf der Burg refers to the historic area Auf der Burg in Reinig. There was once a castle or a fortified manor house; the name has been preserved in field and street names as Auf der Burg.
