Grape Varieties and Winemaking
Riesling, Portugieser, Blauer Zweigelt and Grauburgunder have been documented from Dorndorfer Rappental. The wines are described as mineral-balanced, and—specifically for Riesling and Portugieser—as dense and shaped by ripe fruit. In a documented example, Portugieser ripens for six months in used barriques, while a dry Blauer Zweigelt is matured in the barrique. The cultivated plots include species-rich flower mixes, gentle vine pruning, a correction of shoot numbers in spring and, if needed, a green harvest in late summer.
