Location at the Pompejanum
The Pompejaner vineyard lies in Aschaffenburg on the slope of the Main riverside, below the Pompejanum. The steep site slopes down to the Main and forms part of the garden design of the Pompejanum, which was built between 1840 and 1848.
Replanting and viticulture
The vineyard was destroyed during the Second World War and replanted in 1963. An archive record documents the first processing of the grapes from the seven-year-old vineyard after its re-establishment: from the 1958 vintage, 800 litres were bottled as Aschaffenburger Pompejaner. For the Pompejaner, the grape variety Rieslaner is documented for 1963.
Aschaffenburger Pompejaner
The current Aschaffenburger Pompejaner is documented as a white wine made from Müller-Thurgau, including as a dry Kabinett. The 1958 vintage was bottled in Bocksbeutel bottles.
