Petersberg

Location

The Petersberg is a named wine-growing area in Weingarten (Baden) in the Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg. The vineyards are situated on a hillside; parts of the site have historically been described as steep plots.

History and cultivation

Monks from Weißenburg recognised the Petersberg in the 10th century as a suitable place for winegrowing and planted the first vines there. Up until the 1950s, the site was cultivated in small plots, in parts steep, using labour-intensive methods.

Parcel arrangement

In an official announcement concerning the vineyard holdings register from 2024, the parcels 17713 and 17714 in Weingarten were assigned to the single-vineyard site Petersberg and the larger site Hohenberg. For Weingarten (Petersberg) a land consolidation procedure ran in 2026; after the completed assessment in 2024, measures for paths, water management, landscape maintenance and climate protection were being planned.
