Paradiesgarten

The Paradise Garden lies above Deidesheim in the wine-growing region of Pfalz. The hillside faces south-east, covers about 130 to 210 metres above sea level, and shows gradients of 8 to 30 percent. Another description locates it on the western side of Deidesheim at the forest edge, at a height of approximately 120 to 170 metres.

The documented soils consist of weathered Bunter sandstone, sandy loam, sand, loess and clay. In addition, sandier loam as well as red and white sandstone with a diverse soil structure are described as the most important components. The adjacent forest protects against extreme weather such as heavy rainfall and hail.

The classified area of the Deidesheimer Paradise Garden is 28.00 hectares. The classified grape varieties listed are Riesling, Weissburgunder, Spätburgunder and Chardonnay.

Paradiesgarten is entered as an official single vineyard in the wine-growing sites directory of Rhineland-Palatinate and is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. This VDP classification is separate from the statutory German wine-growing classification. An example is the Sauvignon Blanc BX OTC by Von Winning from 2019: a dry Sauvignon Blanc with 13.0 percent by volume of alcohol, matured for ten months in new French 500-litre tonneaux on full lees with repeated bâtonnage.
