Location and context
The Nonnengarten is a single vineyard site within the municipal area of Mörstadt in the Wonnegau sub-region of Rheinhessen. Under wine law, the site is assigned to the Großlage Burg Rodenstein.
Soil
The soil consists of calcareous, deep, and fertile loess, or Pararendzina. Light loams with clayey silt are also described, as well as good water storage that is available to plants. The site description also refers to sandy soils.
Grape varieties and wine
In the Nonnengarten, Burgundy varieties, Chardonnay, and other grape varieties are grown. For a Chardonnay from the 2022 vintage from the Mörstadt Nonnengarten, a dry maturation and an alcohol content of 13.5% by volume are documented.
History of the name
The name Nonnengarten is connected with the tradition that nuns once owned vineyards at this place.
